Real Madrid star Luka Modric has won the 2018 Ballon d’Or, with Lyon striker Ada Hegerberg becoming the first female winner and PSG’s Kylian Mbappe claiming the inaugural Kopa Trophy for best under-21 player.

Paris Saint-Germain criticised a report from French newspaper L’Equipe that stated that the Ligue 1 champions could sell either Brazil international Neymar or France star Kylian Mbappe to comply with Financial Fair Play rules.

L’Equipe published the report online on Friday that detailed that the club might have to offload one of their star players.

“[The club denies] in the strongest form these totally erroneous and ridiculous allegations, and with the sole purpose of creating a climate of great tensions … PSG questions, once again, the honesty of L’Equipe and their hidden editorial motives,” the club said in a statement released on Friday.

Neymar joined the French champions in a world record £200 million deal in 2017 from Barcelona while Mbappe became the second-most expensive player of all time when he arrived from Monaco for a rumoured £166m after having initially spent a year on loan at the Parc des Princes.

PSG’s denial over L’Equipe’s story comes amid reported interest in another high-priced acquisition. Sources have told ESPN FC’s Julien Laurens that PSG would have to pay €75m to sign Ajax midfielder Frenkie de Jong with the Dutch club not taking anything less than that amount.

The Dutch youngster has interest in making the jump to Paris, according to sources, with PSG manager Thomas Tuchel reportedly keen on bringing in the versatile midfielder.
