Manchester City have confirmed that a supporter is in a critical condition in hospital following Wednesday’s Champions League round-of-16 first leg win against Schalke.
City released a statement to say they were aware of the alleged assault at the Veltins Arena and are working with Greater Manchester Police and German police.
The Premier League champions also confirmed staff have remained in Germany to support the family of the injured fan.
Gelsenkirchen police said in a statement released on Thursday afternoon the 32-year-old man was hit by a fist amid a brawl between two Schalke supporters and two City fans outside the away sector.
The man then crashed on the ground, with the fall causing a head injury.
