La Liga chief Javier Tebas has heavily criticised Serie A’s finances following talk Inter Milan was a realistic destination for Barcelona forward Lionel Messi.
Ex-Inter president Massimo Moratti told an Italian radio station that he felt Inter signing the six-time Ballon d’Or-winner was no longer a “forbidden dream.”

However, Tebas said Serie A’s financial issue ran so deep that not even signing Messi would help.
“I don’t being the arrival of Messi would solve Serie A’s problems, which are tied to high debts and insufficient incomings,” Tebas told a news conference. “Serie A’s finances are stretched and these issues with a certain Leo Messi.
“I would like Messi to stay here [in La Liga], but if he did leave, it wouldn’t be the end of the world: it was said that, without Cristiano Ronaldo, La Liga would have lost money, but in fact we made [money] — even in Portugal.
“Great players help, but they are not essential for a league.”
La Liga has been suspended indefinitely due to the ongoing coronavirus crisis, while Serie A is postponed until April 13.
