James Rodriguez seemed frozen out at Real Madrid, but after starting their last match, does the Colombian have a place in Zinedine Zidane’s squad?

The Premier League transfer window has closed, but the rest of Europe remains open for business until Monday. Plus, it’s never too late to look forward to January! Click here to view the latest transfers and keep up to date with the latest gossip below.

TOP STORY: Real set sights on Fernandes

Bruno Fernandes was a target for several English clubs this summer, chiefly Manchester United, but it would appear as though the sought-after midfielder is closing in on a move to Real Madrid.

This is according to Fiorentina sporting director Daniele Prade in a report on AS, after he was quizzed about his club’s interest in Fernandes’ Sporting teammate Raphinha. At the presentation for new signing Dalbert, Prade said his target was out of reach because of Sporting’s impending windfall of €70 million from Real.

Fernandes was heavily linked with a move to either Manchester United or Tottenham, but neither club made a bid that met Sporting’s valuation before the end of the English transfer window.

And now, agent Jorge Mendes would appear to have secured his client a bumper move to the Spanish capital instead. Fernandes scored 32 goals in 53 games last season.

Not so fast, Neymar

Neymar’s move to Barca looked to have moved a step closer when one of his sponsors — watch brand Gaga Milano — posted a picture of the Brazilian star posing in a Barca shirt on its Instagram account.

The wantaway PSG star is an ambassador for the company and, as you’ll know unless you’ve been living under a rock all summer, has been desperate to return to Camp Nou from PSG. The image was swiftly deleted, but the post had done enough to set tongues wagging.

However, following PSG’s 2-0 win over Metz on Friday — a match in which Neymar predictably did not feature — sporting director Leonardo poured more cold water on any progress in negotiations with Barcelona.

“We have not reached an agreement according to our conditions,” the Brazilian said. “The negotiations aren’t over but there is no agreement because our demands haven’t been accepted.

“We are open to talking about players but there is no agreement. PSG’s position and of Neymar has always been clear: If a satisfactory proposal comes in then it could happen but that’s not the case.”

Sounds like this one is going down to the wire, folks.

Navas to swap Real for PSG

Marca is reporting that the recently rumoured move of Keylor Navas to PSG will happen first thing next week, with a deal already agreed with the goalkeeper ahead of a move to the French capital.

The French champions will pay Los Blancos €15m and loan World Cup-winning goalkeeper Alphonse Areola back to Madrid in a deal that sees Navas join the Parisians for three years.

Navas is expected to feature in the Madrid squad to face Villarreal on Sunday night after the two clubs missed the registration deadline for him to face Metz on Friday.

The Costa Rican keeper has been linked with a move away from the Bernabeu all summer, and he could now face his former teammates when the two clubs go head-to-head in the Champions League.

Navas made 162 appearances for Madrid and was a key part of the side that won three consecutive Champions League trophies.

Tap-ins

– Arsenal midfielder Mohamed Elneny is set to join Besiktas on loan, reports the Mirror. The Egypt international is surplus to requirements at the Emirates Stadium and, according to the story, the deal could be made permanent next summer for a fee of £16.2m. Elneny had previously been linked to Bordeaux, but Super Lig giants Besiktas appear to have won the race for the 27-year-old’s signature.

Fernando Llorente is on the verge of a move to Napoli, according to pictures released by Gianluca di Marzio. The Italian journalist reveals that the current Tottenham striker has already undergone a medical, and that the transfer will be confirmed over the weekend. Llorente is pictured adorned by a Napoli scarf and is expected to join up with the club to watch their match against Juventus tomorrow.
