AC Milan coach Gennaro Gattuso has been given a one-game touchline ban for confronting the referee at the end of Wednesday night’s Supercoppa.
Gattuso protested with the officials for not giving what he felt was a clear penalty for a foul by Emre Can on Andrea Conti late on in his side’s 1-0 defeat to Juventus.
The Lega Serie A released their disciplinary statement on Thursday and it stated that Gattuso would be banned for one game and fined €15,000 for “shouting at the referee at the end of the game in a threatening manner and challenging his decisions, in addition to having, subsequently, while waiting for the prize-giving ceremony, made further offensive words and insinuations towards the referee.”
AC Milan club doctor Mario Brozzi has also been banned until Feb. 4 for making “seriously insulting, offensive remarks in an arrogant, derogatory manner towards one of his own players,” with the referee Luca Banti making note of this in his report on the game.
Gattuso will miss the Rossoneri‘s trip to Genoa on Monday afternoon as Serie A recommences after a three-week break.
Midfielder Franck Kessie will also miss that game after being banned one match for his red card against Juventus. VAR was used to change what was initially a yellow card to a red for dangerous play.
